Nigeria records 555 new infections to surpass 40,000 COVID-19 cases

‘741 persons contracted COVID-19 in Enugu’

NIGERIA recorded 555 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing total confirmed infections to 40,532.

  Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known via Twitter, noting that 17,374 patients have been discharged upon treatment and recovery from 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

  It added that 858 associated deaths have so far been reported.

  The NCDC gave the state-by-state distribution of cases recorded on Sunday as, “Lagos – 156, Kano – 65, Ogun – 57, Plateau – 54, Oyo – 53, Benue – 43, FCT – 30, Ondo – 18, Kaduna – 16, Akwa Ibom – 13, Gombe – 13, Rivers – 12, Ekiti – 9, Osun – 8, Cross River – 3, Borno – 2, Edo – 2, and Bayelsa – 1.”

  Similarly, a total of 741 persons have been infected with COVID-19 in Enugu State.

  Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ikechukwu Obi, disclosed this in a press conference yesterday.

  According to Obi, the state recorded new 15 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, which brought the total number to 741.

  “New laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases on July 25, 2020, were 15. The total laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases are 741; number of COVID-19 cases on treatment is 299, while the number of COVID-19 cases discharged is now 425. The number of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 related deaths is 17,” he stated.

  The commissioner, however, warned member of the public that “COVID-19 is real and they should be responsible.”
