ROTARY Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, led by Rotarian Kanayochukwu Obidigbo of District 9142 recently made a glorious remark and in-house handover of mantle of leadership to the new president of the club, Rotarian Abuchi Nwaozor at Finotel Classic Hotel, Awka, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The ceremony attracted well to do men of various clubs, Assistant Governors, Past Presidents, Paul Harris Fellows (PHFs), Rotarians and guests among whom are the Assistant Governor of Zone 8, Rtn. Dr. Dennis Ekemezie, Rtn. Kanayochukwu Obidigbo, Rtn. Innocent Nnaemeka, Rtn. Abuchi Nwaozor among others.
The club joined other Rotarians and Rotaractors in different clubs and districts worldwide to end the 2019 to 2020 Rotary year, themed, “Rotary Connects the World” and welcomed fellow Rotarians into a new Rotary year 2020 to 2021, themed “Rotary Opens Opportunities” in grand style.
The past president, Mark Daniel and his partner, Gay Maloney thanked Rotarians across the globe for their tremendous support in service above self and welcomed everyone into a new Rotary year and also urged them to ensure service above self to humanity.
The outgoing president of the club, Rotarian Obidigbo who expressed joy and gratitude to the members of the club for giving him the privilege to serve, noted that It is a journey of so many miles that begins with one step as it started last year July and has also been on record for both the club and Rotary International.
The Assistant Governor of zone 8, Rtn. Dennis Ekemezie, alongside other past presidents of the club on behalf of the District Governor, Sam Uko, inducted two Rotarians and encouraged them to render selfless services to humanity, adding that it is a service above self.
“We want to thank the new Rotarians who had gained privilege to be inducted today. It is a great honour to get approval for their induction instantly in the club. I saw them only once but they have become one of us today.
“On behalf of the District Governor of District 9142, Rotary International, we want to adorn you with this pin and to remind you that you are now a Rotarian”.
Rotarian Ify Obi, who is the first female president of the club for two years advised the new inductees to be committed and endeavor to pay their dues as at when due and encouraged them to be good Rotarians.
Other Rotarians also thanked Mark Maloney for his leadership during the challenging time of the pandemic, noting that he piloted the affairs of Rotary as a true Connect President.
They also welcomed the new Rotary International President, Holger Knaack, who in his inspirational choice, themed the year, ” Rotary Opens Opportunities,” adding that he called on Rotarians to create opportunities that strengthen their leadership, help to put service ideas into action, and improve the lives of those in need.
“He continued to inspire us through stories of service and his commitment to keeping us connected. President Mark and his partner, Gay showed truly how Rotary connects the world. Regardless of traveling around the world to meet with our clubs, he brought us together through online meetings”.
In a group chat message to Rotarians, the new Pathfinder District Governor, Rotarian Ndukwe Chukwu welcomed all the new Rotary leaders into a new year and thanked his predecessor for the service he rendered to the District throughout the year 2019 to 2020, as well as other past leaders during his tenure.
