CHAIRMAN, Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB), Chike Maduekwe has said that building without government approval in the state is a criminal offence.
“Gov. Willie Obiano has warned several times against impunity of erecting structures in the state without government approval,” Mr Maduekwe, a lawyer, said in an interview.
He was reacting during demolition exercise embarked upon by the board to remove illegal structures built on government land on Wednesday.
He urged people of the state to always secure government approval before erecting structures, noting that the board had offices in all 21 local government areas of the state.
At Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, a perimeter fencing of a piece of land was demolished for lack of government approval.
Some lock up shops built without government approval at Oye Market Farm Settlement, Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area, were also demolished.
During the exercise at Igbariam, Head, Development Control of ANSPPB, Mrs AnuliI kedigwe said that Igbariam Farm Settlement was a government -acquired land taken over many decades ago, part of which had been ceded to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
