Baby Survives As Fatal Auto Crash Claims Four In Anambra



It was a divine intervention at Ogidi Idemili-North local government area of Anambra state at the weekend as a little baby survived a fatal road traffic crash which claimed the lives of four persons.

According to the crash report released by the Anambra command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, the crash which occurred near Buckie Polytechnic along Ogidi-Abatete road, involved a Mercedes Benz 608 and a Mercedes Benz Tipper and about nineteen casualties were affected by the accident.

The sector commander of the commission in Anambra state Mr.Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi stated that officials from Nteje unit command were dispatched to the accident spot to rescue the victims.

He said that some of the victims were rushed to Iyienu hospital Ogidi while others including a little child were taken to Twinkle hospital Ogidi. The FRSC boss in the state explained that Iyienu hospital later confirmed four ofthe accident victims brought to the hospital dead while Twinkle hospital disclosed that the little baby brought to the hospital and some others survived and were responding to treatments.

Kumapayi’s position on the fatal crash which is contained in the situation report released by the Sector Public Education Officer Mr.Paschal Anigbo further shed more light on the unfortunate event.

He said ,” We received a distress call on a fatal Road Traffic Crash which occurred at about 5.15pm near Buckie Polytechnic, along Ogidi-Abatete road. FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash.

” The crash involved a Mercedes Benz 608 with registration number AA205DMA driven by one Ezeugwu Christopher and a Mercedes Benz Tipper with enlistment number XD651GDD, drivers name given as FC Ugwumba. According to some eyewitnesses, the Tipper had a Tyre Burst, resulting to Loss of Control and subsequently rammed into the Mercedes Benz 608, conveying passengers.

” Casualties involved included, Seventeen adult males, One female adult and One female child. Totalling Nineteen .They were all rushed to Twinkle Hospital, Ogidi by members of the community. Six male adult victims in critical condition were referred to Iyi-Enu Specialist Hospital, Ogidi.

” Information reaching us after a Hospital Follow-Up on Saturday 13 June, 2020 states that Four have been confirmed dead by doctors at Iyi-Enu Specialist Hospital and their corpses deposited at the hospital morgue.”

The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety commissiomd Anambra State, Mr. Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi however condole with the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims quick recovery.

He vehemently warned vehicle owners and drivers against the use of expired or worn-out tyres, particularly now that we are in rainy season. He equally advised that only brand new tyres should be used in vehicles as most fairly used tyres, popularly called “tokumbo tyres” were expired coupled with its attendant dire consequences.
