IN what could be described as renewed violence between TV-Jukun communities in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, a pastor, Emmanuel Bileya and his wife, Juliana Bileya, were gruesomely murdered by unidentified gunmen.
According to reports, the victim, Pastor Emmanuel Bileya, a pastor with the CRC-N Church, Mararaba, in Donga Local Government Area, was reportedly killed with his wife, Juliana, by militiamen while working on their farm in Mararaba, on Monday.
Reacting to the incident, Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, on Tuesday, condemned the killing of the couple, describing it as wicked, inhuman and unhelpful to the on-going efforts of the government to achieve lasting peace among communities in the area.
The governor, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu, said he received the news of the victims’ murder with deep shock, adding that the attacks and killings have been on-going in Taraba State since April 2019, despite efforts by the government to end the killings.
“The killing of the pastor and his wife is wicked and inhuman, the statement read.
“Killings of this nature have happened too often recently in Southern Taraba communities and this is unhelpful to the on-going efforts of the government to achieve lasting peace among communities in the area.
Ishaku sympathised with the surviving members of Pastor Bileya’s immediate and extended families as well as pastors and members of CRC-N in Mararaba where he served until his death, and prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and others killed in violent conflicts in the past.
