IN ITS efforts to assist in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition has donated N1 million to Anambra State as part of her support to contain the deadly disease in the state.
The delegation being led by its Nigeria Coordinator, OnyinyeNweke, featured the Cancer Patrons; former Commissioner for Information and Culture, High Chief MajaUmeh and former Commissioner for Health Dr. Joe Akabuike were received by the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu at the Government House, Awka.
While presenting the cheque to the state Covid-19 team, OnyinyeNweke commended the state government led by Chief Willie Obiano for the proactive measures taken so far in containing the spread of the virus in the state and stressed that despite the association’s concentration on Cancer Awareness and treatment, it saw the call to support the state government as what every patriotic onye Anambra should do.
In his remarks, the Cancer Patron, MajaUmeh commended the state government especially for the visionary establishment of an Oxygen Plant in the state, which has turned out to be an important factor in the management of Covid-19 patients, expressing gratitude to both the former Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike and his successor, Dr. Vincent Okpala for the job done in the state’s health sector.
Chief Umeh commended the governor for his administration’s commitment to delivering an International Conference Center and an International Airport to the state and advised Anambra Youths to see the period as a war situation and ensure they cooperate with the state government in her effort to keep the state and her citizens safe from the ravaging virus.
He advised law enforcement agencies to identify with the mood of the people at this time and ensure they continue to imbibe global best practices in handling citizens at this time.
The patron commended the founder and National President of ASA Women, USA, Dr. AnthoniaUcheUmeh and her dedicated team, the excos, patrons and all who contributed to the donations, calling on the governor to align with the call of the association to establish a Cancer Center, the first in the South-East in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu thanked the association, for overlapping in her primary responsibility and heeding to the call of the governor for support and prayed God to replenish their pockets, pledging the funds received will be put to good use.
