… Arrests masquerades for violating stay-at-home

ANAMBRA State is expediting actions on its preventive strategies against the global COVID-19 pandemic.

  Special Adviser to Gov. Willie Obiano on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practice and Managing Director of Anambra State Oxygen Plant Production, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Awka.

According to him, Gov. Obiano is not leaving any stone unturned in stepping up all the proactive measures he introduced to debar the scourge from Anambra State.

  Dr Ibezim therefore urged ndi Anambra to reciprocate the governor’s responsive techniques by strict adherence to those measures, adding that they are also stipulated by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Speaking further, Ibezim also appealed to residents of Anambra State to avoid panicking, rumour peddling and politicisation of the fight against Coronavirus.

  In a related development, 29 persons consisting of health workers, relations and business partners of Anambra State COVID-19 index case have been quarantined with arrangements for their testing also concluded.

Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, stated this while speaking on how COVID-19 response team in the state searched for the index case from 8pm to 3am, after NCDC contacted the government to reveal that a case has been registered in Anambra.

  According to him, the hospital where the index case was registered has been fumigated.

  Meanwhile, some masquerades have been arrested in Anambra State for defying the stay-at-home order that started recently in continuation of the fight against coronavirus.

  The masquerades who flouted the order were arrested at Nkwo market in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area.
