Umuchu has benefitted in Obiano’s govt – Ononuju

PRESIDENT General of Umuchu, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Emeka Ononuju has described Governor Willie Obiano as the most labour friendly governor.

 He stated this in an interview with our reporter, adding that the civil servants in Anambra State can attest to it.

  He added that he is also doing well particularly in the issue of security.

  He continued by saying “Umuchu like every other community has benefitted from his very innovative Community Infrastructure Improvement Scheme, also known as the N20 Million Project; phases 1 and 2. There is also an on-going road construction: The Nkwouchu – Ugwuakwu – Ibughubu – Achalla – Arondizuogu Road.”

Ononuju however, stated that although the contractor is doing a good job, his pace is too slow and requested the governor to call the attention of the project team.

  He also narrated some issues facing them. “There are other challenges facing us as a community especially the flood and erosion menace. The Ogu/Osete gully site has been abandoned since 2014. We have lost about six homes to this site in the last six years and what is more worrisome is that it is threatening the ever busy Igboukwu – Uga – Umuchu – Umunze – Isuochi Highway. We have other mega erosion sites at Umuagama threatening the Umuchu High School Road, and also the Iyikpa – Obosi flood/erosion site at Ugwuakwu.”

  The president general further called on the governor to do more to improve the facilities at the General Hospital, Umuchu; and to place border communities like Umuchu on a special status by providing additional vehicles to their vigilante group to enable them police the vast expanse of land.

  Meanwhile, he described Umuchu as a very big agrarian community (actually one of the biggest in Anambra State) with a vast agricultural fertile land. He said “Umuchu is home to number of agricultural enterprise within its agro industrial cluster. Some of them include the award winning Eagle Food and Processing Industries (of the Efi Igbo fame), Orient Farms, Emenike Farms, InterRita Farms and many more. Umuchu is a border community sharing boundaries with Akokwa, Umualaoma and Arondizuogu in Imo State, Seven other communities in Aguata and Orumba Local Government Areas. Its famous Nkwouchu market is a hub of agro-produce business. It serves the 20 neighbouring communities and as far as Enugu State, Abia and communities in Imo state.”
