All is now set for workers in the employ of the Anambra State Government to receive new salaries from January this year .
The state governor Chief Willie Obiano had said that he would not renege on his promise to workers to pay them the new national minimum wage and other incentives but also tasked the state workforce to increase the internally generated revenue of the state ; as to whom much is given , much is equally expected .
The Head of Service of the Anambra State Civil Service , Barr.Harry Uduh , yesterday reiterated the governor’s stand on his earlier pledge to the state work force , stressing that the new salaries remained sacrosanct and that workers should expect it this month .
Uduh who gave a written document dated 28th January , 2020 and signed by himself , to our reporter, to further lend credence to the fact that the state government was not making empty promises to workers , said workers in the state employ should expect more positive developments regarding their welfare especially with the commencement of the new minimum wage this month .
The document reads thus , ” as a result of the recent approval of the new national minimum wage and consequential adjustments by His Excellency , Chief Willie Obiano and agreement with organised labour on Friday 24th January , 2020 , efforts are on to ensure that the effective date of 1st January,2020 is implemented .
A new salary chart has been worked out and is now being imputed in the pay roll system . Workers are therefore urged to exercise patience as the computations are in their interests . The delay is a one off .
Other state officials not affected by the minimum wage have since been paid . Our Governor remains the ” Alert Governor . ”
He said workers were really expecting the implementation of the new national minimum wage and that the governor wants it implemented including allowances thereto , noting that there was no cause for alarm yet .
Uduh however assured workers in the state civil service that January salary will be the new minimum wage .
He said the delay in the payment was due to the late agreement with the organised labour but henceforth , the governor will maintain his deadline of 25th of every month for the payment of workers’salaries .
