ZONAL Director of Education, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Nnewi Zone, Mrs Nkechi Ilozumba has emphasised importance of students being proficient both in sports and academics.
Speaking during the inter-house sports competition of Nnewi High School, Mrs Ilozumba noted that the future of hardworking and diligent students who are outstanding in sports and have sound education is very bright and prosperous.
In his address of welcome, Principal of the School, Mr. Godwin Aghadinuno stated that some of the pressing problems facing the school presently that need to be tackled were lack of borehole, renovation of classrooms/science laboratories and absence of modern toilets.
He further stated that the school needs a source of generating her own fund bearing in mind that government and the community cannot provide all schools needs and was optimistic that with adequate support from outside, they can go into mechanised farming and skill acquisition.
Earlier in his opening remark, Chairman of occasion, Mr. Benedict Asoh, called for all hands to be on deck in restoring the lost glory of Great Nnewi High School.
At the end of the sports fiesta, Panthers Sports Club with 162 points came first while Uruagu House and Badminton with 162 and 147 points took the second and third positions respectively.
