THE ultra-modern roundabout being constructed by the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) at Zik Avenue/Agulu Road junction, Amawbia, will be completed in December, this year.
Speaking to the press during an inspection of the project, on Wednesday, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of ACTDA, Amaechi Okwuosa, commended the fast pace of work at the site and quality of the job too.
Ven. Okwuosa disclosed that the roundabout which he described as ‘Tower of Light’ would be as high as five-storey building (about 200 feet) and would be visible from any point of Awka city at night.
He said that ACTDA attached top priority to the timely completion of the roundabout and deployed two professional engineers, Messr Paul Nchekwube and Okechukwu Nkwoji, to supervise the project to achieve the target.
The roundabout, according to the ACTDA boss, would be fitted with a large bulb and other various sculptural images of popular Igbo cultural artefacts, like cowries, chandeliers, etc.
It would be recalled that the old roundabout at the spot was badly damaged by the patrol tanker explosion fire disaster which occurred in Amawbia earlier this year, resulting in loss of lives and many shops burnt around the vicinity together with three vehicles and the security gate office of the Governor’s Lodge, adjacent the Nigerian Red Cross state headquarters, at Amawbia.
