Prof Uche Collins Nwogwugwu has been installed as the 36th President of Rotary Club of Awka, District 9142 for the year 2019 to 2020.
Addressing Rorarians and others present during the event which held at New Orleans Hotel Royal, Udoka Housing Estate,Awka, the Zonal Director of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria,, Enugu Zonal Station, Sir Ken Ike Okere, described Rotary Club as a selfless service.
“One way to live life is to live a life of gratitude which entails a grateful heart that feels the need and the inescapable push to help others. Those who live a life of gratitude do not have it all but even in their needs; they put other people’s needs first.”
He described the new president as a man of high integrity, a very decent human being and someone who is highly focused and understands the concept of service to his creator and human being.
In his remarks, former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and currently, member of National Economic Advisory Council of Nigeria, Prof. ChukwumaSoludo encouraged members and participants to continue being steadfast in work of charity and humanity.
While handing over the mantle of leadership to the new president, the emeritus president, Rtrn. Bonaventure Uzo encouraged him to continue with the good works of his predecessors, adding that the club will never develop cold-feet in their benevolent act.
Also, the All Progresssive Grand Alliance (APGA) Chairman,, Chief Victor Oye, who received an award for his contributions to the club thanked the organisation for honouring him with an award. “It is our good works that we will be remembered for. When you work in God’s vineyard, God will also work in your vineyard”.
Prof Nwogwugwu, while appreciating the club for installing him as the new president emphasised that the club is not a social club, neither is it a money club but rather, a club where everybody give to charity. “I never expected that it will turn to a grand success. I thank God and everyone who came to grace the event. The club is going to increase membership, solve some problems of communities like maternity, renovate some dilapidated classrooms and other public property, and look into the issue of keeping peace in Awka.
The event attracted some prominent personalities, government officials, Rotary’s past and present assistant governors, clubs past and present presidents, Paul Harris Fellows, District Officers and other members within and outside the state.
Highlights of the event were the installation of the new president, donations and presentation of awards to people for their contributions to the club and society. Among the awardees include; APGA National Chairman; Victor Oye, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, UNIZIK; Rita N. Ugokwe Joseph, IkechukwuUgwuoke, Sunday Okebuno, Uju Christiana Nwana and Sunday Umeh.
