Maxwel Cornet extends contract at Olympique Iyonnais
IVORY Coast international, Maxwel Cornet is to extend his contract at Olympique Lyonnais in France by another two years to 2023.
The 22-year-old striker, who played for the Elephants at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in June, is breaking open up a deal that already has him bound to the Ligue 1 club until 2021.
The new contract will be signed on Thursday.
Cornet, born in the Ivory Coast but raised in France and played for France at junior level, had been considering an off-season move to the Bundesliga. But it did not materialise.
Cornet has been at Lyon since January 2015, signing from Metz where he started his career.
The new contract comes despite Cornet having been started only once by new coach, Sylvinho this season.
Cornet came on as a substitute on Tuesday for Lyon when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Zenit St Peterburg of Russia in their opening UEFA Champions League group games.
