Marseille vs Montpellier match preview
MARSEILLE managed to come out the better of the two sides last week as they beat Monaco away from home in a 4-3 thriller. They had to battle back from 2-0 down to get the points and while their defence was battered and bruised they will be delighted to get their third win on the bounce.
Marseille began the season in poor form with a loss and a draw reminding fans of last season’s mishaps but they have really rallied round in recent weeks. They have now scored seven goals in their last three matches including two against last year’s second best defence, Nice. Marseille will be hoping to improve their defence though as they have conceded six goals this campaign.
Montpellier picked up a win at the weekend as they beat Nice 2-1 at home. It was a good performance from la Paillade but another symbol of their awful inconsistency this season. Montpellier have managed to put in extremely steely performances against the likes of Nice and Lyon (1-0) but have failed to maintain that concentration in other matches
Montpellier have been the league’s least clinical side this season as they have racked up an xG of 8.13 despite scoring just four goals. The main man to examine for this stat is Andy Delort who has missed five ‘Big Chances’ so far this season.
This should be a tight match with both teams exciting to watch at the moment but ultimately we’re going to edge this one in favour of Marseille. The hosts won the last fixture between these teams and with them high on a run of three wins, we can see them getting another victory here. Montpellier haven’t won any of their last three away games so we’re backing this one to finish 2-1 to Marseille.
