IN solidarity, the Igwe in Council, Sons & Daughters, well wishers and the entire 20 Villages and six zones that make up Agulu town, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, gathered in the palace of Igwe Innocent Obodoakor to felicitate with him on the celebration of 2019 New Yam Festival, as they withdrew to their various villages to continue with the merriment.
The annual event reached crescendo as Igwe Obodoako broke the Kola nut and thanked God for the year’s bumper harvest. He further prayed for God’s guidance, protection, peace and progress on each family and urged everyone to go back to the land, for anyone that make a farm will never go hungry, even as the visiting Catholic Priest from Onitsha Archdiocese; Rev. Fr. Anthony Igweagu prayed for more blessings on the people.
In his welcome address, the President General of Agulu Peoples Union (APU), Chief Andy Orakwelu, eulogized Igwe Innocent Obodoakor for his quality leadership and prayed God to give him long life to take Agulu people to the Promised Land.
Igwe Obodoako used the occasionsto confer chieftaincy titles to some of their illustrious sons, amongst whom are High Chief Paulinus Anagbaoso and Ichie Nwoke Belu-Ibeya of Agulu.
The yearly event witnessed new yam competition where Mr. Emmanuel Ezekwem came first with 153.10kg yam, the second person, Mr. Jideofor Ifebueme had 117.80kg yam, and third person, Mr. Sunday Chiekwe, with 79.10kg yam, smiled home with new motorcycles, respectively, while the fourth person, Mr. Unegbune Okpuagulum, N15,000 cash.
In Nkitaku Village, the story was marvelous as Chief Akuyie Nwata-Egwu donated three shuttle buses to the first, second and third highest yam producers so as to enable others engag in farming activities.
