THE Federal Government has initiated a nationwide social investment poverty alleviation scheme aimed at touching the lives of less privileged Nigerians predominantly found in the rural communities in the federation.
The scheme facilitated by the officials of the National orientation Agency led team of community development officers, is charged with the responsibility of collecting names of the indigent in all communities.
At the Nawfia community in Anambra State, the rural populace and inhabitants trooped out impressively to welcome the federal government delegation led by Mr. Thankgod Obidiegwu of the National Orientation Agency.
Mr. Obidiegwu explained that the team was in Nawfia to take census of the poorest of the poor which will be determined using seven criteria to be determined by the rural dwellers themselves.
According to the NOA official, after collecting the list of the poor, officials of the scheme will crosscheck the list before the final approval list is published for the consumption of all stakeholders.
He noted that beneficiaries are targeted at one person per household for every community.
Speaking during the forum, the traditional ruler of Nawfia Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo (Osuofia the second) explained to the rural dwellers that the scheme is targeted for only the poor in their midst and nothing more.
Igwe Nwankwo warned that persons parading themselves in the category of the poor will not be included.
The royal father encouraged his subjects to continue to be law abiding and to be part of building a progressive Nawfia community.
He charged them to be vocal in defending their rights and to criticize him constructively if they doubt any of his actions.
