Help the poor – Osodieme urges philanthropists
PHILANTHROPISTS and the wealthy in society have been urged to step up charitable activities for the poor and indigent people of their communities and beyond.
Wife of Anambra State Governor and Founder of Caring Family Enhancement (CAFÉ) initiative, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano made the call while addressing Anambra women that thronged Oyi and Dunukofia Local Government headquarters in continuation of her 2019 annual August tour of communities.
Explaining that government cannot do it alone, the governor’s wife challenged wealthy and privileged members of society to reach out to as many poor and less-privileged ones as their means can afford to bridge the income divide and improve the lot of every person, irrespective of communal and political differences.
According to Mrs. Obiano, those who take up this challenge will not only write their names in gold in human history, but also receive greater reward.
She used the forum to throw more lights on what CAFÉ has been doing to touch many more lives in Anambra State, adding that she is being inspired to do even more by Gov. Willie Obiano templates of good governance.
The governor’s wife later presented five sewing machines to women who were trained in fashion and designing as part of CAFÉ skill acquisition programme in the area, stating that more graduates of the centre will receive their own start-ups soon. Mrs. Obiano also distributed bags of rice, cash and educational materials to widows, disabled, aged and children at the event.
