Kidnapped Enugu monarch, wife rescued

THE traditional ruler of Obom-Agbogugu in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Sunday Orji and his wife, Alice, who were recently kidnapped by bandits suspected to be herdsmen have been rescued.

An aide of the monarch said Igwe Orji and his wife got  their freedom yesterday evening.

According to him, an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom to the monarch’s abductors who initially demanded N50 million from the family in an earlier contact before the bandits later brought their price down to N20 million.

It will be recalled that the monarch and his wife were kidnapped along Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, near Agbogugu-Ihe Junction, on their way from a church event organised for Catholic Bishop of Awgu Diocese’s mother on Sunday.
