EFCC raids Ekiti varsity, arrests 70 students

NORMAL academic activities in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti suffered a hitch yesterday when operatives of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) swooped some hostels on the campus.
The anti-graft agency raided the campus on a tip-off in search of some students allegedly indulging in cyber scams, popularly known as yahoo yahoo.
Matters came to their head when students of the university poured onto Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road in protest when the school community got wind of the raid.
The student numbering about 2000 barricaded the road with stones, logs of wood and tree stumps to make movement impossible for vehicles and people using busy road, with many of the road users forced to find alternative routes.
It took efforts by a combined team of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and their Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) counterparts, as well as security men on duty to bring the protest under control.
But over 70 students were arrested although the school authorities denied knowledge of the arrests.
