Southeast can protect self – Aduba
CHAIRMAN, Anambra Vigilante Supervisory Committee and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Vigilante Matters, Ikechukwu Aduba has cautioned on the dangers of establishing rural settlement across the Southeast and entire Nigeria.
Aduba, a former Commissioner of Police said if Miyetti Allah went ahead to establish vigilante operation in the state and by extension, in any part of Southeast zone, the committee would institute legal action to halt them. The special assistant, who spoke on Monday in Onitsha, said they would not resort to violence or fire for fire approach but should use constitutional means to halt the trend.
His words, “Miyetti Allah should go to their own home to set up vigilante because we can’t allow that here in Igbo land. They can also go to other African countries to establish their colony.
At least, here in Anambra State, we are capable of protecting ourselves and that is why Anambra is currently the safest state in the country. We have programmed it in such a way that it will remain the safest from now even in the future.
He further explained that his committee has started training and re-training of vigilante operatives in the state, stressing that various communities in the state should dispatch volunteers to be sponsored by them.
He described Atiku as one of the patrons of Egbenu Oba Society of Onitsha, stressing that the role of the society dated back to centuries ago. He said the Egbenu Oba group was a warrior group of Obi Onitsha who was instrumental in defending the kingdom and the traditional institution.
