PEOPLE of Akaboezem Uruagu Nnewi have been suffering over the years due to deadly flood menace every rainy season.
A Community Leader and illustrious son of Akaboezem Uruagu Nnewi, Dr Eugene Ojukwu told our correspondent at his village in Akaboezem that the flood menace of over a decade has destroyed all the motorable roads in that community and leaves jerky and deep pot holes after each rainy season.
The C.E.O. Ekeson Motors revealed that the people had in the past put considerable efforts both in funds and palliative labour since the inception of flood menace.
According to him, “the people, who are average food cultivators no longer plant food items as flood washes off their cultivations during rains.”
He said that all the roads at other quarters in Nnewi Local Government enjoy motorable good road networks except Akaboezem community and Uruagu Nnewi. He cited St Mary’s Cathedral/ Akaboezem Emeka Offor Road, saying that flood has cut off their link to Emeka Offor junction; Okpuneze/Nnewi Hotels Road and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, off Oraifite/Nnewi Nkwo to Nkwo, among others, adding that other mini link roads have been bastardised with huge flow of flood.
Chief Ojukwu appealed passionately to Governor Willie Obiano to remember Akaboezem Uruagu Nnewi people whom he promised to give face lift to their roads.
He however, stated that the community voted enmasse for the APGA Government and legislators and expressed hope that they will be rewarded with democracy dividends like other communities.
