THE Catholic Bishop, Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Hilary Odili Okeke has admonished Christians to live exemplary life legacies that will vindicate them at death.
Bishop okeke made this call during a funeral mass held in honour of the late Sir John Asomba Onyekwelu at his compound in Awor-Ezinifite, Nnewi South Local Government, Bishop Okeke described the deceased as an illustrious son of Ezinifite that brokered brotherly love and peace in the community.
The Funeral Homily was delivered by Rev Fr. Martin Onwudiwe, who said that all mortals must die but the most important thing remained the life legacies the deceased left to vindicate him or her.
He said that Sir Onyekwelu,76, lived a fulfilled life as testified by his town, Ezinifite and those who had rare opportunity to parley with him.
Presenting his Biography, the deceased’s first son, Chief Ugochukwu Onyekwelu said that the family was thankful to God that he left enviable foot prints in the sands of time.
Speaking from his Palace, Igwe Obika, Ezeoha II of Ezinifite said that the peace reign in Ezinifite was headed by Sir Onyekwelu and that he remained a philanthropist to the core as well as an instrument of companionship in his royal cabinet until death came calling.
According to the Igwe, when he was sick, he singlehandedly roofed a community edifice in Ezinifite as was pledged during its launching.
In the words of Noble Sir Leo Ike Okoye (OwelleEzinifite), “no true and authentic history of Ezinifite will be written without generous references to Late Sir John Onyekwelu”.
Lady Oge Eziokwu, the first daughter said that her father was a down to earth man who was not given to frivolities as he hated evil tendencies.
Obiora, Chuka, sons and other daughters of Sir J.A Onyekwelu paid glowing tribute to Ezini Ezinifite, whom they described as caring and an educator.
The immediate brother, Sir Jonathan Onyekwelu also testified that Sir John left copiable life legacies in his life.
