Amawbia gets new town union exco

A NEW town union leadership that will pilot the affairs of  Amawbia community has been sworn-in in a colourful ceremony that took place on Monday at the palace of the Regent of Amawbia, Ozo Nnaemeka  Maduka.
The arrow heads of the Amawbia Town Union leadership emerged on May 18,2019, after a keenly contested election that drew home, ‘ndi-Amawbia’ both home and in diaspora.
Mr. Ebele Nwufo beat two other contestants, Compol Ibesimako Gahanna (rtd) and Dr. John Ndibe with 224 votes to emerge as President General of the town.
Others who secured positions were, Mr.Uche Okonkwo- Deputy President General, Sir Nathaniel Ikele- Tresurer-General, and Mr. Chuka Odumodu-Public Relations Officer.
Performing the swearing-in ceremony, the Regent of Amawbia, Ozo Nnnaemeka Maduka praised God that the much expected election went smoothly
He charged the  executives to brace-up to the challenges and tasks to the benefit of the town, reminding them that they are bound to be criticized but should not be daunted.
Ozo Mmaduka  expressed joy that the wishes, dreams and legacies of the former president-general, late Pharmacist Anene Maduka had continued to glow, and reminded the new executives that their tenure in the office will expire by 2021 according to the town’s constitution.
Also speaking, National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Ike Oye noted that Amawbia is on a new dawn and must be united in the purpose of engendering peace, stability and development of the town
The APGA helmsman lamented that ndi Anambia had forsaken their ancient legacies of brotherhood and unity, noting that enviable culture and tradition of the town is fast dying, paving way for social malice that is the lot of our youths.
He advised the executives to be creative, courageous, proactive, and shun greed and avarice but lead with the fear of God, love for Amawbia and above all, be democratic in the management of Amawbia affairs.
Earlier, the outgoing President General, Chris Nwoye thanked God for His love for the town which culminated in peace, unity and progress of the town and also thanked ndi Amawbia for the privilege afforded him and his executives to serve the town.
He reminded the new executives that leadership of the town is a thankless job, assuring them of the goodwill and support of ndi Amawbia to enable them succeed.
Nwoye urged them to continue to pursue protection of the town territorial boundaries  against all odds, adding that they should carry everybody along in their administration.
In his acceptance speech, the new President General, Ebele Nwufo said the oath they took was for the progress, unity and stability of the town and declared a no victor-no vanquished in the last election.
Nwufo urged all hands to be on deck to move the town to the next level, adding that it is not yet uhuru but with collective bargaining, Amawbia will be taken to greater height.
