GOVERNOR Willie Obiano was on Saturday, honoured with a chieftaincy title of Amuogun of Ado-Ekiti, while the wife, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano received Erelu Amuogun title from the traditional ruler of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III.
The conferment was in recognition of their enviable track records, exemplary leadership qualities and human capacity development which transcends Anambra State.
The event, which held at the palace of the monarch in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital, attracted people from all walks of life such as; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adewusi Enitan, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Ex-Minister of Information, Mallam Labaran Maku, Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, Some traditional rulers in Ekiti an Anambra States, the clergy, among others.
In his address, Gov Willie Obiano thanked the monarch and Ekiti people for conferring on him such a noble title, promising to build on the relationship that exist between the Igbo and Yoruba people. He urged ndigbo and ndi Anambra residing in Ekiti State to always respect the custom of the land.
He admonished ndigbo to love one another and be good ambassadors of Igbo race in Ekiti State.
“Respect the custom and traditions of Ado-Ekiti, and be good ambassadors of ndigbo in Ekiti State. Love one another and maintain the conviviality that exist between the Igbo and Yoruba people ,”he said.
On her part, the wife of the governor, Dr. Eberechukwu Obiano promised to live up to expectations of the noble title. Mrs Obiano, who spoke in fluent Yoruba language urged ndi Anambra and ndigbo to consolidate on the healthy relationship that exist between the Yoruba and Igbo people.
She congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on his victory at the Supreme Court.
In his address, Oba Adejugbe Aladesanmi disclosed that the conferment of such titles on Dr. Willie Obiano and his wife was purely on merit as their intimidating and motivating records transcended Anambra State. The monarch, however congratulated Gov Obiano and his wife for a successful installation.
Ekiti State Governor, John Kayode Fayemi, who doubled as the Chairman of Nigeria Governor Forum(NGF), represented at the occasion by his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, also harped on the need to build on the existing healthy relationship between ndigbo and Yoruba people.
While congratulating Gov Obiano and his wife, Dr. Fayemi pledged to create a good business environment for ndigbo residing in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the installation committee, Ogunmodimu E. B said that chieftaincy conferment by Ewi of Ado-Ekiti is the greatest royal recognition that can be bestowed on specially selected personality who possess a sound reputation and excellence irrespective of his or her race, state and ethnic background.
Chief Ogunmodimu said the intimidating records of Chief Obiano and his wife fetched them such titles. According to him these title immediately qualify them as stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti development programmes.
