Ugwuanyi reaffirms commitment to security, infrastructural devp, capacity building



ENUGU State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has reaffirmed the determination of his administration to continue with the developmental strides recorded in the state in his first tenure, with more emphasis on infrastructural development, improved security, capacity building for the state workforce, educational, health and agricultural  development.
He spoke at his maiden address immediately after his swearing to commemorate the beginning  of his second  term  in office.
At a colourful event held at the Michael Okpara square, yesterday , Governor Ugwuanyi  attributed his victory at the 2019 governorship election to the ‘grace and favour of God . He said, “I stand here as a testimony, grace and favour of God of Abraham, God of Isaac and awesome God of Jacob , To him be all the glory forever more”
He said his success at the poll was possible because of the faith the people of Enugu State had in him and his deputy,  Cecilia Ezeilo. “A day like this would not have come for my deputy and I if not for God and you all.” He commended the people who campaigned and voted for him at the election.
“We assembled here to celebrate  the end  of an eventful  journey that  began in 2015  and the beginning  of a new tenure. You have demonstrated absolute confidence  in  my administration and I have promised to deliver good governance to you.”, he assured.
He  reassured the people of the state of  his commitment to job creation, rural development, agricultural sector renewal, provision of critical infrastructure and other developments . The governor reminded the people that on assumption of office, they met not much finance on ground but with steadfastness and commitment, they were able to increase the revenue generation of the state to an appreciable standard.
He enumerated prompt payment of workers’  salaries, pension and gratuity, infrastructural development, judiciary reform, improved security, educational and health sectors reforms as some of his achievements in the first tenure.
Governor Ugwuanyi promised to complete some abandoned projects of his  predecessors, noting that,  “Work is ongoing at the international conference centre to tap into the businesses it holds. He promised that his administration will continue to close rank between the rural and urban areas. Saying, ” We have taken steps for rural  infrastructure through one community, one project which was started in 2018.
The state executive used the medium to direct all local government chairmen in the state to relocate to their local government areas.” Every local government officer should live in his domain”, he said.
On the  judiciary reforms he embarked upon in his first tenure, Governor Ugwuanyi disclosed that his administration constructed 34 Customary Courts, two in each local government area. He commended the 6th National Assembly for passing the bill on the independence of the state judiciary.
On education, Governor Ugwuanyi informed the people that  more  teachers were employed into the  state schools and additional 1,500 teachers will be employed. The Institute of management and technology, IMT held  convocation for the first time after over twe years. He disclosed that the state government will introduce information communications technology, ICT, in secondary schools.
On youth and sports development, Governor Ugwuanyi said that the state government will introduce a special empowerment program for the youth. He recalled that  Rangers international football club broke a 32 and 35 years jinx and won challenge  cup and AITEO cup  respectively.
On agriculture, he said a lot had been done in the development of the agricultural sector, over 3,000 farmers were empowered and more will still be done in the sector.
While appreciating the people of  Enugu State for their support in his first tenure, Governor Ugwuanyi appealed for their continuous support  in his second tenure, promising to make Enugu state a citadel of peace. ” We are open to ideas that will add value to the people. Let us push front with Christ our Lord.. Our first tenure ended in praise, this too shall end in praise. He who started this good work will help us end it”, he said.
He committed the second tenure unto God’ s hands, and expressed optimism that “Abba father decides to do new things in our State’.
Dignitaries at the occasion were the former governor  of Enugu state and senator-elect of Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, deputy governor of Enugu State,  Cecelia Ezeilo, deputy governor of  Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke, Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu, national and state Houses of Assembly members, top government officials, clergymen, traditional rulers and a  host of others.
Highlights of the occasions were the swearing in of Governor Ugwuanyi for his second tenure in office , cultural dance display , inspection of guard of honour, and parade by the Nigerian Police.   The chief judge of Enugu State, Honorable justice Pricillia Emehelu administered the oath of of office on governor Ugwuanyi.
