IT WAS jubilation galore at the Arts Theatre of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, as Dan Uwandu was given a resouding retirement party for his immense contribution to educational excellence.
The retirement ceremony was themed, ‘The Teacher’s Teacher’, alluding to his professionalism and mentorship of others, especially lecturers who are currently teaching different courses in the department.
The occasion was graced by prominent dignitaries from the academic world, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku.
In his remarks, Ahaneku eulogized the academic icon. He described him as a man of good discipline and excellence, ” I am happy and proud to say that Chief Uwandu has played significant role in the nurturing and development of a department such as Theatre Arts to greater heights.”
He went further to appraise his courage to pioneer the department at the very beginning in the institution. He traced the history as regards the department developing like a foetus to maturity.
”….now this department has become a place for spiritual consciousness, physical development, creativity and other forms of entertainment.”
Ahaneku ended his speech after he launched the book authored by the celebrant, ‘The Teacher’s teacher’.
The ceremony was replete with theatrical performances which include dance, stage acting, poetic recitations, amongst others.
