NATIONAL Gallery of Arts, Enugu, has concluded plans to host children on May 27 as part of activities marking this year’s Children’s Day celebrations at the premises of the organisation in Enugu.
According to the Enugu Head of Station and Curator, Pat Nkwocha, the event is annually staged by NGA throughout the country, particularly where it has a station office like Enugu.
Mrs. Nkwocha noted that about six schools are expected to participate in the event, adding that pupils and students of the said schools had already submitted their art works which a panel of experts are currently working on to ascertain the best among them..
She said that the panel would judge the children’s works based on the theme of the competition, “Nigerians let’s Celebrate our Differences, Say no to Hate Speech”
She stated that the children will entertain guests with drama and many other interesting presentations .She also stated that two prominent Nigerians will be honoured that day. She named those that would be honoured as O.G Nwakoby and Ben Nwankwo for their contributions for the development of arts in the country. She explained that the NGA is an agency of Federal Ministry of Information and Culture saddled with many responsibilities among which is discovering creative artistic minds, particularly in the visual arts which the children’s day event tends to achieve.
The NGA Curator however, appealed to wealthy individuals, corporate bodies and governments at all levels to always support her organisation on programmes that will benefit children, the acclaimed leaders of tomorrow.
