Directs ministers to hand over
IN A move that may have tactically dissolved the incumbent federal cabinet, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed ministers to hand over their portfolios on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 just a day to his second tenure inauguration.
The president gave the directive in a valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday.
Eulogising them as “a reflection of the Nigeria we aspire to achieve,” President Buhari commended the ministers for their “selfless and meritorious” service to the nation throughout the duration of the outgoing administration, stating that with yesterday’s meeting as the last for the cabinet before his swearing in for a second term on Wednesday, ministers should start preparing their handover notes, even though they continue to work in their capacities until Tuesday.
President Buhari added that ministers should beat their chest for their contributions to federal government’s anti-terrorism efforts that liberated local government areas previously under Boko Haram control.
According to him, the directive to hand over is coming now to ensure that ministers have ample time to put their acts in order for seamless transition into the incoming administration, by submitting their handover notes to Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) on Tuesday.
