Easter of immense essence
EASTER is the festival and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. It is the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who would be persecuted, die for the sins of mankind and rise again.
Easter is a very significant date within Christianity and the foundation of the Christian faith. It follows a period of fasting called lent which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on good Friday (The day Jesus was crucified). Many churches during the period, set aside time for reparation and repentance.
After a season of shedding bad habits and resisting temptations, Easter is the perfect opportunity for Christians to recommit to their beliefs. It is a season that calls for some solemn and renewal of faith because the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have Victory over sin.
Speaking to National Light on its significant and importance, Sir Stephen Nkemdiche (KSJ), said ,“Easter is all about sharing the message of hope, love and sacrifice. It is a period when people want to hear that someone loved them enough to give up his life for them.
“It’s a season when it is proven that nothing can separate us from the love of God. His perfect and undying love could not be killed on the cross. It could not be held in the grave. Love couldn’t help but rise from the dead. Imagine where we would have been if it all ended on Good Friday.
Adding her voice, Mrs Ifeoma Agudosi explained that “If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, then the faith of Christians is useless and pitiful. Easter means the death of Christ for our sins so that we could go to heaven because one perfect person had to die for sinners to be saved.
“Jesus is the only one who passed the test. He lived a perfect life before his father and people. He offered his perfect life as a sacrifice for imperfect people”.
Pastor Benjamin Okoye, on his part, emphasized that Easter Sunday is actually considered the most important and sacred Sunday of the entire year.
It marks the anniversary of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension to heaven and observing this holy day can teach Christians a lot more about faith.
“According to the bible, Jesus’ death was a sacrifice for the sins of others. His resurrection represents something for rebirth, salvation and renewal of faith.
