CHINESE Embassy in Nigeria will soon open consular office in Awka, Anambra State.
The state Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment Dr. Christian Madubuko who disclosed this in Onitsha at the weekend during his familiarization tour to the markets in the state, said a consular office would lessen the stress and cost of obtaining Chinese Visa by traders and other citizens in the South-East. He noted that the stress of going to Lagos and Abuja will be drastically reduced.
Madubuko said Dr. Willie Obiano and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria struck the deal when the Ambassador paid a courtesy visit to the governor at Awka. He noted that one of Governor Obiano’s commitments is improving the welfare of his people, stressing that the government is bent on flushing out touts in Anambra State.
The commissioner further cautioned the rampant extortion by leaders of the market and threatens to sack any market leader caught in such reckless exercise.
He stated that some touts have been arrested at Onitsha and will soon be charged to court.
