Obiano flags-off third phase Amawbia community project



ANAMBRA State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike Global) recently flagged-off the third phase of the Choose-Yourself community development project at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government area.
The event of the flag-off was the 2019 Eziokpaligwe festival of Amawbia Town wherein the Governor represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke flagged-off the N500million ultra-modern civil centre of the town located at the New Era layout where this year’s festival took place for the first time.
Eziokpaligwe festival of Amawbia town is an event that ushers in a new farming season in the community as well as an occasion to raise funds for development projects in the town.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Governor congratulated the town for the laudable initiative of locating their third phase project-the ultra-modern civil center at a strategic place such as the New Era layout in the town.
He expressed satisfaction that the town has completed their first and second phase of the state Governor’s N20million Choose-Yourself community development project awaiting the third phase which will be in the offing soon.
The Deputy Governor while applauding stakeholders in the town and the community for keeping the tempo of community development high, also commended them for their continued support to the governor especially in the last election which produced one of their own, Chief Pius Chukwuma Okoye member-elect for Awka South II Constituency in the state Assembly under the platform of APGA.
He then supported the town in their efforts with the sum of N.2million.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the first day event and Principal Secretary to the State Governor, Chief Willie Nwokoye applauded the town for the peace, stability and development consciousness which has continued to propel development projects in the community.
He commended Amawbia people for their loyalty and support to the state government’s policies and programmes, urging them not to be swayed by the antics of unprogressive elements in the state.

The first day event featured traditional dances and masquerade displays by all the villages in the town.
On the second day of the festival, chairman of the occasion and chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Ozo Nkpu Victor Ike Oye, observed that moral decadence is fast becoming the norm of our society because parents have abdicated their responsibilities to their children, hence, the societal vices we experience of our children today.
He noted that our customs, cultures and traditions which the Igbo is known are fast decaying and warned that any town that abandons her cherished traditions and cultures are doomed.
He urged Ndị Amawbia to hasten to streamline her traditional institution such as the Ozo and Nze society for more respect and prestige.
Ozo Victor Oye stressed the need for oneness of purpose, peace and stability as the only springboard that will ensure early completion of the 3rd phase project in the town.
“No town will progress in a state of disunity, dishonesty, bickering, rancour and acrimony among her membership, it is only a retrogressive tendency,” Oye stressed.

He commended the leadership of Amawbia Town Union for their laudable initiative of the ultra modern civil centre in a new site at New Era layout, a move Oye said has attracted several dignitaries including members-elect of the State Assembly, Chief Pius Chukwuma Okoye- Awka South I, Hon. Ibida-Njikoka II, Hon Cater Umeh-Aguata I, Hon Charles Obimma-Oyi, Leo Nwuba-Chairman Awka South and Ogbueshi Tony Eboka-National Vice Chairman of APGA, South-South zone among others.
Speaking on the event, the Regent of Amawbia town, Ozo Onowu Arc Nnaemeka Maduka said this year’s festival is special in nature because it combines the festival on the one hand and the flag-off of the N500m event centre in a new site at New Era layout by the state governor, describing the event as successful.
He praised God for making it possible for Amawbia to move beyond the present confined event centre to a new and more conducive place and called for the determination of Ndị Amawbia to realise the dream project on record time.
On the state of the first phase project in the town, Eke Oyibo motor park, the Regent drew the attention of the Awka South Local Government Authority to the deteriorating state of the motorpark which he said is a revenue source to the State Government, Local Government and Community.

He maintained that Amawbia has remained loyal to the Obiano administration and cannot afford to behave otherwise because of the goodwill the Governor has continued to extend to the community and then urged Ndị Amawbia not to be swayed by any circumstance.
