Oyo REC promises credible election



RESIDENT Electoral Commissioner for Oyo State, Mutiu Agboke has restated the Commission’s resolve and determination to conduct a free, fair and credible election that will be applauded by Nigerians and international community.
Speaking during a meeting on Tuesday to update stakeholders and security chiefs on the readiness of the new date, Mr. Agboke, apologized to Nigerians for rescheduling of the elections saying it was unavoidable.
Commenting on Card Reader, the REC said that the Card Readers have been sent for reconfiguration in line with the new date for the national elections and the reconfiguration completed.
“We require a total number of 6,390 Smart Card Readers. Equally we have recruited and trained 351 Registered Area Technicians (RATECH), one per RA/WARD, for the purpose of attending to faults that Smart Card Readers may develop in the field, he said”
According to him, INEC, Oyo State has recruited and trained over 28,000 personnel for the Presidential and National Assembly elections. He added that this personnel will man 4,783 polling units and 1,607 voting points making a total of 6, 390 voting stands.
On his part, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Shina Olukolu, also assured the electorate of their safety throughout the election period. Representatives of National Orientation Agency, NOA, NYSC and Intra Party Advisory committee urged INEC to live up to expectation while imploring residents to shun voter apathy.
