LAST Saturday, DAAR Communications, owners of African Independent Television (AIT), Ray Power FM and Faaji FM staged an award-giving event in recognition of stakeholders in the media sector. The award ceremony, which is in its third edition was staged in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with the presence of dignitaries.
The awards recognised frontline personalities who have played major roles in the Nigeria and the Diaspora. Multiple award winning artiste, Timi Dakolo’s ‘Great Nation’ set the ball rolling as the event begun with his scintillating songs.
Amongst the award recipients were the veteran actor and sitcom star, Chief Chika Okpala, aka Zebrudaya, received the award for evergreen achievement in media while Alleluia Akpobome, aka Alibaba, received the comedy achievement awards.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, won the awards for Outstanding Political Personality while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was decorated as the Man of the Year.
Long-held Boko Haram captive, Leah Shuaibu, was named Woman of the Year. While for his immense contributions to infrastructural development in Abia, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu was named the Outstanding Governor of the Year. His colleague from Benue State, Gov. Orton Samuel received the Solidarity Award while Gov. Tanko Almakuru of Nassarawa State received the awards for Promotion of Peace and Food Security.
Publisher of Ovation, Dele Momodu received the Media Icon of the Year Awards. While Raypower FM anchor woman, Nkiru Arinze, won the awards for Personality of the Year among other winners in the very colourful event.
