MID-YEAR budget reviews have been described as veritable means of keeping track of financial activities around government ministries.
The permanent secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget Development, Anambra State, Comrade Leo Imoka , who made the assertion at a two-day mid year and annual review meeting on budget, held in Awka, noted that such budget reviews make for effective planning for the upcoming year and necessary adjustments for meeting ministries financial goals.
He was represented by Comrade Arthur Iweanya, who urged participants to take seriously the meeting and find ways of stepping down the information gathered to their juniors in the office.
The H.O.D, Partnership Coordination, UNICEF, Ebere Ahaji, in her contribution, highlighted the objectives of the meeting to include, ‘Enhancing Transparency and Accountability in Budget Implementation for Quality Performance’.
She was hopeful that participants would among other things learn to control operational expenditure of their budgets, as well as engage effectively on monitoring and evaluating of projects for effective budget performance.
She said that the meeting will create room for all the donor agencies in the performance appraisal framework and time lines.
One of the participants, Chinyere Udegbunam, expressed her happiness toward the workshop and thanked the state government and the ministry for coming up with such gesture.
