THE need for Christians to dedicate themselves to service of God and human beings has been stressed.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor made the remark while delivering a sermon during the thanksgiving mass for dedication of St. Augustines Catholic Parish Ichida, Anocha Local Government Area.
He stated that dedication of the church is just like someone dedicating him or herself to be holy. The bishop emphasized that if the church is holy, those worshiping there should also be holy, otherwise, building the mighty church is in vain.
He urged the parishioners to make judicious use of the facilities for their spiritual and moral rebate, live holy lives to inherit the kingdom of God. He attributed their rapid infrastructural development of the church to good and untiring efforts of their pioneer parish priest, Reverend Fr. Francis Chidiume, the succeeding Parish priest Rev. Father Amobi Bartholomew, Rev Fr. Onyeso Peter, Rev Father Obieze Benedict and the present resourceful Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Hyacient Anaekee and the Parishioners for their team work.
The bishop also commended the traditional ruler of Ichida, Igwe Charles Ezeudogu for single handedly building the Parish Hall while Emeka Eze Okonkwor built the tower, among others for their significant roles in the project of the Lord and urged them not to relent.
In his remarks, Ferdinand Ezeanaekwe, Chairman of the occasion welcomed the bishop and other clergies, other distinguished guests and parishioners for gracing the occasion and solicited their maximum cooperation. He expressed delight that the parish has been fortunate with priests posted to it.
The Parish Priest, Rev Fr Hyacient Anaekee expressed appreciation for the success of the programme which is a dream come true and God’s intervention. He paid tribute to the bishop for his effort in evangelizing the diocese, the parishioners for maximum cooperation towards making the ceremony a huge success and prayed God to replenish them and lead them safely back to their respective destinations.
Highlights of the occasion were dedication of the church and presentation of a souvenir to Igwe Charles Ezeudeogu by the bishop on behalf of the parishioners.
Receiving the gift, the Igwe, represented by his younger brother, Prince Hyginus Ezeudogu and Igwe Lolo, thanked the Parishioners for honouring him. He expressed that the honour will motivate him to do more good for the people once God justifies the means.
