IN a bid to improve art and craft, Anambra State Government plans to establish Arts and Craft Village in the state.
Anambra Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Sally Mbanefo said that the plan was now at an advanced stage.
“We desire the village now more than ever before, because of our quest to take tourism to the next level.”
Mrs Mbanefo said this during an interactive session with newsmen in her office at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka,
She noted that planned Art and Craft Village would aid the state to add indigenous art works in the ministry’s portfolio and empower artists in the state.
“Gov. Willie Obiano is a lover of arts and culture and he’s working toward improving the art sector of the state, which will help the preservation and growth of our culture.
“Anambra has many tourist sites at different locations in the state. Government is seriously developing and upgrading the various sites.
“The present administration has approved and built infrastructure around the Ogbaukwu cave at Owerre Ezukala which now attracts more tourists to the place.
“The state has also approved the construction of steps, railings and relaxation spots at the Ogbunike cave,” she said.
Mbanefo, however, noted that Agulu Lake has been given a face lift by the citing of Golden Tulip Hotel with a four-Hole Golf Course.
She said that Anambra could now compete with her counterparts all over the world in tourism industry.
The commissioner maintained that cultural carnival would become an annual event to be bank-rolled by the ministry.
