UCH commissions TB centre
UNIVERSITY College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, has inaugurated an Ultra-Modern Multi-Drug-Resistant, MDR, Tuberculosis Centre.
The centre built through Public-Private Partnership is a one-stop centre for detection and treatment of MDR Tuberculosis.
Some of the facilities at the centre include forty bed spaces, pharmacy, x-ray room, laboratories and consulting room.
The facility, which is a bungalow was constructed within eight months.
Commissioning the project, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Dr. Temitope Alonge noted that the centre is the first of its kind in the country.
Dr. Alonge emphasized that the centre would alleviate the sufferings of sufferings of patients with multi-drug-resistant TB.
The CMD called on well-meaning Nigerians to invest in the health sector.
Representative of the organisation that built the centre, Dr. Osman El-Tayeb said the project was initiated with the aim of reducing TB to the barest minimum.
Dr. El-Tayeb stressed that his organisation would continue to partner health institutions on the detection and treatment of TB.
Some stakeholders in the health sector lauded the efforts of the organisation and said the centre would put smiles on the faces of many TB patients.
They urged the management of the hospital to ensure the centre is put to proper use.
