Lawmaker decries herdsmen invasion of Ayamelu L.G.A

MEMBER, Representing Ayamelum Constituency at the Anambra House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, on Tuesday, at plenary brought to the notice of ndi Anambra, the invasion of his community by cattle rearers..
Okafor, before supporting the motion for adjournment, lamented the destruction of farm lands and crop of his people.
According to him ” I want to bring to the notice of Ndi Anambra that my local government have been invaded by Fulani herdsmen.
‘It is so pathetic that this year 2018, my people will not have a Merry Christmas because their foods and crops have been destroyed.
‘ Ayamelum is a L.G that has over 90 percent of its people as farmers. It’s painful how someone will toil from January to December, hoping to have a good and bountiful harvest, only to have his crops destroyed.
‘No one knows what the next action will be as my people will want to protect their farms and crops. What we don’t want is loss of lives because there have been loss of properties already.
” I call on this Honourable House Members to add their voices in calling the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano to direct the committee that was set up on Fulani herdsmen and its activities to do the needful.
‘We have enough land where they can breed, we are not against it. They should leave our crops and farm lands alone. There is a big difference between crops and grasses’.
My people are heart broken. So many of my constituents are afraid of coming home for the festive period because nobody knows what will happen next. ”
It will be recalled that Ayamelum suffered from a terrible flooding this year which left many homeless and large quantity of crops and farms destroyed.
