Eddie dismisses bout between AJ, Oleksandr

UKRANIAN boxer, Oleksandr Usyk has now become one of the most exciting names in boxing following his knockout performance against Tony Bellew last month.
The Ukrainian is currently the undisputed cruiserweight champion, but has the ambition to become successful within the heavyweight division. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist has openly admitted that a fight against Anthony Joshua would be his dream fight.
However, Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has dismissed claims that the British champion will be taking on the former cruiserweight this April.
“I saw reports saying that the Joshua fight was done. Certainly not,” Hearn revealed to Sky Sports.
He added: “There’s not even been one conversation about that fight, other than they want it in the future. But if he’s going to move to heavyweight, there’s nothing concrete yet.”
Usyk is yet to have a professional fight within the heavyweight division with his closest coming against Tony Bellew, who previously bumped up a weight class to fight David Haye. Regarding Usyk’s future, Hearn had this to say: “Yes, he’s going to need a good rest because he boxed so many times last year. He hardly had any rest between big fights, so I don’t think he’ll be ready until April or May.
“I would think he’ll want one or two fights before he fights Joshua. “But if he would take that fight straight away, and Whyte or Chisora is not available, and we can’t make Wilder or Fury, I don’t know.
“But (Joshua vs Usyk) is not something we’re actually looking at, at the moment.”
Despite having an eye on one of the sport’s biggest marques, Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas has also revealed that the Ukrainian would need a few heavyweight fights under his belt and is unlikely to be the man to fight Joshua at Wembley on April 13. “We won’t be going for Joshua in the first fight (at heavyweight). He will need a fight or two against the bigger guys.
“But he will be a very, very good heavyweight. He will bring his speed and he has shown he has the power.”
