CHAIRMAN, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, has urged members of Anambra State House of Assembly to refrain from igniting political agitation in the state.
This is coming after the purported impeachment of Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs Rita Mmaduagwu, by 20 members of the House.
Reacting to the impeachment saga at his palace at Onitsha, Igwe Achebe described the incident as a plot to scuttle the existing peace within the state.
Achebe, also the traditional ruler of Onitsha, noted that the purported reasons offered for the attempted impeachment, was at variance with natural justice and lacked substance.
The traditional ruler observed that impeachment could have remained a last resort, after other avenues to seek solutions had been explored.
“Anambra State House of Assembly is like a family that seeks solutions to its internal problems.
“We the traditional rulers are ready to wade into the matter to help peaceful resolution of the matter, so as to achieve equitable and honest solution.
“You should seek the mandate of the people who elected you. Their interest should be of general interest and not a personal interest,” Achebe said.
