SPEAKER of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) has charged members of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (ALFEAN) to support Governor Udoh Emmanuel and to encourage the governor to do more in the agric sector, build more industries, as well as advance other sectors for the development of the State.
Mr Onofiok Luke, who gave the charge recently during a courtesy call by farmers at the Assembly Complex, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
The Speaker was reacting to the farmers appeal for specific laws to be enacted to protect farmers in the state and for more interest free loans by the state government.
The chairman of the association, Mr Abasiama Inyang and the Secretary, Mr Etop Udofia, who led the delegation, said the farmers were very much aware of the various intervention programmes the governor has embarked on in the state to boost the agricultural sector.
He maintained that farmers have enjoyed free maize given to them by the state government to cultivate, adding that the gesture, has put a stop to the farmers’ practice where farmers would import maize and fresh corn seeds from other states at exorbitant rates.
