Woman docked for issuing dud cheques
Another jailed for stealing N935.000
ONE Michael Edeh who was identified as father of two children whose corpses and that of their dog were found dead in a freezer at his Igbogbo-Baiyeku area of Ikorodu residence is currently cooling his heels in detention.
The incident was allegedly busted on November 11, when neighbours raised the alarm over an offensive smell coming from Edeh’s residence which was under lock and key and the flat deserted.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, disclosed this yesterday at a press conference, adding that the suspect is already being interrogated at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Panti Police Station, Lagos to get to the root of the matter.
“I have confirmed the matter and CP directed that the father of the deceased be brought to notice to know his ulterior motive or whether it is an act of negligence,” Oti said.
In a related development, police arraigned a 39-year-old woman identified as Amaka Ejiofor before a Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Grade I Area Court yesterday on a one-count charge of cheating for allegedly issuing a dud cheque to the tune of N500, 000.
According to the prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, one Ihenkoro Chimezie reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on July 13, adding that Ejiofor issued the cheque to him in the name of a second generation bank which was dishonoured on presentation to the bank sometime in June.
Olanipekun said the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code to which Ejiofor pleaded not guilty, before the judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, granted bail to her in the sum of N500, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov. 26 for hearing.
Similarly, an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State yesterday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Dotun Akande, to one year in prison for stealing N935.000 belonging to Orisun Microfinance Bank.
