Suspected cultists attack vigilante group in Ihiala
SOME suspected cultists have allegedly attacked members of vigilante group at their duty post at Umuadobihi Village in Ihiala, Anambra State.
The commander of the vigilante group, who did not want to be identified, said the alleged cultists, who attacked them during the early hours of the day took them unawares.
When alerted, the Ihiala Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Kachi Ugwu and his team went to the scene of the event and picked up some of the empty cartridges that were fired by the suspected cultists.
Meanwhile, before the attack that early morning, a combined team of security agencies, including Ihiala Police Division, arrested some suspected cultists in the town, whose names were sent from state Police Headquarters.
The operation, which was led by the Ihiala DPO, nabbed some of the listed suspects. Speaking to the press, the DPO said a signal came from the headquarters, with a list of the suspected cultists, who terrorised the town; “the tip off helped me and my team to arrest the suspects”.
The arrested suspects were later handed over to the Special Anti Cult Squad from Enugu-Ukwu, who took them away to their base for further investigation.
He also said that his team would always be after those that were at large, stressing that they would ensure that Ihiala would be crime-free.
