Rangers to paint Enugu red
FOLLOWING their miraculous victory in the 2018 AITEO Cup Football Competition, Rangers Football Club will paint Enugu red this weekend. Starting tomorrow, the gallant players of Rangers International Football Club of Enugu will embark on victory lap of major streets of Enugu metropolis.
The players and their officials as well as fans are expected to ride in open vans and go round all the streets of Enugu in a convoy of security agents and members of the Federal Road Safety corps as part of activities, marking the victory of the Coal-City Flying Antelopes in the AITEO Cup Football Competition formerly known as the Challenge Cup.
Football fans from Enugu and environ are expected to throng the streets of Enugu to catch glimpse of the victorious boys who won the trophy after 35 years.
The celebration which starts on tomorrow will have its grand finale on Saturday when the victorious boys and their officials would be officially received by the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
It would be recalled that Rangers recorded one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the Nigerian F.A competition when they came from 3 goals down as at the 77th minute of the final match in Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, penultimate Wednesday, to equalise and beat Kano Pillars in a tension-soaked penalty shoot out to win the trophy.
A statement from the Enugu State commissioner for Youth and Sports, Joseph Udedi recalled that it was also under the present administration that Rangers won the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional League Trophy (NPFL) after 32 years without a trophy, stressing that the AITEO Cup victory has reconfirmed that Enugu State is truly in the hands of God.
