OWNERS of about 22 shops around Ekene Workshop cluster at Awada, Obosi area in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State were counting their losses yesterday after their wares was gutted by a mysterious fire that started by midnight on Tuesday.
This brings incidents of fire outbreaks around the same location to two times since February.
An eyewitness blamed the incident on electricity spark which came out from wirings in the premises, adding that absence of people at the scene when the inferno started contributed to the magnitude of loss suffered by the victims, adding that arrival of some youths at the factory to put it out was too late.
According to him, though no life was lost, machinery, finished products, raw materials and other properties were destroyed by the fire.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra State Police Command, Mohammed Haruna, confirmed the incident, adding that a police patrol team moved to the scene and after a distress call was received at a nearby police station.
