Obiano woos Xmas holiday makers

…..Receives Security Watch Africa’s top prize

GOVERNOR of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has called on holiday makers and tourists to make the state their first choice of destination during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities, adding that his administration will not relent in its commitment to providing round-the-clock security.
Governor Obiano made this call at Ekwulobia Township Stadium in Aguata Local Government Area during the official commencement of 2018 edition of the annual ‘Anambra State Security Operations for the ‘Mber’ Months.
Presenting 50 smart patrol motorbikes – which he noted were fitted with modern security gadgets – to the new Police Bike Brigade in the state to boost its operations, while speaking at the event, Obiano also called on Anambra indigenes in Diaspora to return in their numbers to enjoy a fun-filled season at home.
According to him, the state is continuously spending heavily to partner the police with modern tools to ensure that the state retains its status as a global brand and best security model in Nigeria, warning criminals to keep away because over 50,000 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have been installed at strategic locations to provide 24-hour tracking of clandestine movements and hoodlum activities.
“I have approved the purchase of sets of operational vehicles for Vigilance Groups in the state. It is to reinforce them to be more proactive in their duties. We will disband any Vigilante Team that allows crime to be perpetuated in its territory. We have also mapped out entertainment programmes to spice the celebration,” Obiano said.
Also at the event, Assistant Inspector General of Police of Zone 9 Umuahia, Hassan Karma appreciated the governor’s strides in the security sector, urging the police to put the bikes into best use. He spoke in similar vein with Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Garba Umar, who challenged the ember month security patrol team to key into Gov. Obiano’s vision of seamless and secure festivities.
The event attracted commanders of Police, Army, Navy, Federal Road Safety Corps and the DSS in the state.
Governor Obiano was later presented with a special award from a delegation of Security Watch Africa as the Best Governor in Security Infrastructure in the continent, which would be bestowed on him in Gambia next year.
The event also featured presentation of awards to deserving Police, Navy, Army, FRSC, DSS and NDLEA officers as well as Operation Udoka Team led by Uche Eze and Vigilante Squad led by Christopher Nzekwe, in which Gov Obiano presented N1 million cheque each to five families of deceased security personnel in the state.
