Flood: Displaced persons seek assistance to head home

 CAMP Manager of Fr. Joseph Memorial Secondary School, Aguleri, Mr Onyejekwe Chukwuka has solicited Government assistance to support flood victims preparing to go home.
This is because the floodwaters that forced them off their homes had receded considerably to enable them to plan to leave the Government-supported Holding Centres.
The affected persons complained of a lack of money to go home and also to feed until things normalise in their areas.
“We appeal to the state government to assist us financially so that we can start from somewhere.
“We also appreciate their support throughout the duration of flood disasters,” he said.
Mr Orjiakor Itemba, one of the camp officials confirmed that the floodwaters had gone down and called for government support by providing them with maize, cassava and yam seedlings.
The heavy flooding destroyed all the crops we cultivated. We now seek government support in order to start all over again,” he said.
He, however, commended government, the Red Cross Society, religious organisations and individuals who had helped to ensure they did not lack anything at the centres.
Mrs Susan Okezie, a Red Cross official at the camp, thanked the Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike for his efforts at solving the health needs of the flood victims.
One of the flood displaced persons Mrs Oluchi Onyebor, from Isiokwe Aguleri Otu pleaded with Government to help those whose houses were collapsed by the flood to re-build them.
