FOUR major contracts on roads in Akwa Ibom State has been reviewed by the state government.
The affected roads are the Ring Road 2 from Udoma Junction to the Abak axis of the road, the Ikot Ekara-Ibesit Okporo Road in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, the Obotme-Ikpanya Road and the Ibom Deep Seaport, Super Highway in Eket Senatorial District.
Governor Udom Emmanuel announced this shortly after the state Executive Council Meeting at Government House, Uyo. The governor represented by the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, said the decision by the state government to review conditions and terms of these contracts was to break from the slow pace of work noticed at some construction sites in the state.
The state chief executive explained in the review of the terms of the contracts, the state government has assumed the full funding of the Ring Road 2 Project. He said that the road project was earlier awarded on a joint funding between the government and the investor while hoping that the fresh approach would fast track speedy completion in the next three months.
The governor also said that the state government has given out the construction of the 14 kilometer Ikot Ekara-Ibesit Okpokoro Road from the East from the East West Highway Oruk Anam Local Government Area to another contractor regretting that the road project had remained uncompleted since being awarded in 2014.
Governor Emmanuel also said that the state government has taken over the funding of the construction of the Ibom Deep Seaport Super Highways, earlier awarded on alternative funding terms to fasten its execution.
He further said that the state government has given approvals for the construction of the collapsed Obotme-Ikpanya Road traversing communities in Ini and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, adding that the tracts was aimed at providing all basic infrastructure in the
