Anbukraft sets Awka aglow with creative currents



CAPITAL city of Anambra State, Awka has come alive with Anambra Book and Creativity Festival. The yearly festivity of creativity and culture puts the town in spotlight amid fanfare, constellation of egg heads in the arts and creative industries as well as pundits and literary giants showcases latest trends in the artistic and literary world.
Taking place at King David Hotel, activities scheduled to splash pomp on the week-long event were structured to cover from Monday October 22 to Saturday October 27, with the opening ceremony taking place on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Anambra State Commissioner for Indigenous Artwork, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo, with Executive Director of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Enugu National Station, Mr. Ike Ken Okere as special guest.
Similarly, curtain would be drawn on the illuminating forum with a closing ceremony to be held on Saturday to be chaired by a former Special Adviser to the President, Akachukwu Nwankpo, while Chairman of Ayamelum Traditional Rulers’ Council and Igwe of Omasi, Dr. B. O. Okeji and Dr. Oby Ezekwesili as special guest and guest of honour respectively.
Coming under the auspices of Art Republic in collaboration with the Anambra Book and Creativity Network (aka Anbukraft) and Alliance Francaise, this year’s edition is an interdisciplinary conference conceived under the theme of “book, piracy the dearth of book authorships and intellectual property in Nigeria,” with to view to providing conducive environment for writers, artists, book and creativity enthusiasts to brainstorm and chart new frontiers of intellectual awareness through love of books to create sustainable platforms that promotes production, creativity and reading culture as a totem of tourism development in Anambra State.
Highlights and sideshows slated for the event include special presentation by Dike Chukwumerije, discovery of style (mini runway) by selected artists and fashion designers, poetry and musical performances, spoken word, roundtables, culinary arts and competition, awards, while media partners include National Light newspapers and other art-friendly organisation.
