ACTIVITIES to kick start the 6th triennial National Delegate Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has commenced with an assurance that the conference would produce a credible new leadership for the Union.
The incumbent President of the NUJ, Mr. Waheed Odusile and the Chairman of Credential Committee for Delegate conference, Mallam Dahiru Mohammed stated this at a news briefing to herald the conference.
The Delegate Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists is organised every three years to deliberate on how to move the union forward through election of new leaders that will steer the ship of the union.
The programme for the 6th triennial Delegates Conference holding in Abeokuta is as usual sectioned into two, to discuss the growth of the Union and members, while the second part will be the Election of the union leaders.
The Conference, which holds from 3rd to 5th of October, has the theme, “Media, Hate Speech and 2019 General Elections in Nigeria, A Democratic Participant or Democratised Press”.
The incumbent NUJ President, Waheed Odusile, also standing for re-election and the Chairman, Credentials Committee, Mallam Dahiru Muhammed, during the briefing, explained that 908 Delegates are expected as 33 candidates jostle for the available posts including seven presidential aspirants.
They enjoined participants to be law abiding and to maintain high level of discipline as this will determine the integrity of the profession.
Some of the aspirants already in Abeokuta, Mr. Dele Atunbi and the incumbent seeking re-election, Mr. Waheed Odusile, highlighted some of their programs for the union.
